Day 6: Practicing Away From Routine

Today’s session lasted 34 minutes, one minute longer than yesterday, and took place at my home in Delhi. I am here for Diwali and spending time with family, which meant the context around the session was different. It did not come after my usual workout. We had gone trekking earlier in the day, and I also do did not sleep well the night before.

Because of all this, I felt noticeably sleepy during the session. There was also a clock in the room with a loud ticking second hand. At times, the sound worked as an anchor and gave my attention something steady to rest on. At other moments, it felt distracting and slightly irritating, especially when I became more aware of my tiredness. I did not explore any particular thought deeply today. There was some mental chatter, but it felt fairly contained and less overwhelming than earlier sessions. I am not sure why that was the case. It could be the change in environment, a genuine improvement in the practice, or simply a clearing out of the accumulated noise from the last few days of sitting consistently. After the session ended, I did not feel especially peaceful or refreshed. Most likely, that had more to do with the lack of sleep than with the practice itself.
